e-Health Expansion: Digital Care Cards to Connect Patients Across Five Districts
Under the government’s 180-day programme, initiatives are set to begin to provide healthcare services to the people of Khulna, Noakhali, Bogura, Sirajganj, and Narsingdi through e-Health Cards.
On 15 April, during the question-and-answer session of the National Parliament, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman disclosed this in a written response to a question from Member of Parliament Md. Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas.
He said that a project related to the ‘e-Health Card’ is awaiting approval. The Prime Minister stated that under the 180-day programme, an initiative has been taken to provide ‘e-Health Cards’ to the people, and a project in this regard is currently pending approval.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman also informed that the e-Health Card will be integrated with an electronic patient management system.
Meanwhile, responding to a question from Chattogram-7 constituency Member of Parliament Hummam Qader Chowdhury regarding whether arrangements would be made to train all primary school teachers in English and when it would be implemented, the Prime Minister said that the current government’s manifesto emphasizes bringing all primary school teachers under special training programmes to enhance their teaching quality and skills.
He told Parliament that after the launch of the five-year tenure ‘Fifth Primary Education Development Programme’ from the upcoming 1 July, there are plans to provide English training to the remaining teachers.
He added that the total number of teachers in primary schools currently stands at 376,489, and among them, 130,000 teachers have already received English training under the ongoing ‘Fourth Primary Education Development Programme’.
The Prime Minister further stated that due to high demand for Bangladeshi workers in Japan, the scope of Japanese language and skills training has been expanded to increase workforce deployment to that country. Japanese language training is being provided in 53 TTCs. In addition, recruitment initiatives have been undertaken for trainers in Japanese, as well as Russian, Arabic, German, and Italian languages. So far, 41 trainers in various languages have already been appointed.
In response to a starred question from Narsingdi-5 constituency Member of Parliament Md. Ashraf Uddin, the Prime Minister noted that high-level visits have been arranged to strengthen bilateral relations with various countries recruiting workers outside the Middle East. He said that initiatives have been taken to sign bilateral agreements to expand alternative labour markets in new countries such as Serbia, Greece, North Macedonia, Romania, Portugal, Brazil, and Russia. Additionally, based on recommendations from Bangladesh missions abroad, local lobbyist firms are being appointed as required on a country-specific basis.
Chaired by Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmedhe, the parliamentary session began at 11:00 am on Wednesday, 15 April. At the outset of the day, the members of parliament took part in the scheduled question-and-answer session.
