The German parliament has expressed interest in strengthening Bangladesh’s capacity to tackle climate change challenges and advance sustainable development through enhanced technology and knowledge-based cooperation. The matter was discussed on Tuesday, 7 April, during a meeting at the Secretariat between Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo and a high-level German delegation led by German Ambassador to Bangladesh, Dr. Rüdiger Lotz.

According to sources, the meeting focused on expanding cooperation in several technology-driven sectors, including renewable energy, water reuse, circular economy, waste management, and environmentally friendly industrialization. Emphasis was also placed on strengthening joint initiatives in energy efficiency, green cooling, carbon emission reduction, and biodiversity conservation.

At the meeting, the minister noted that ongoing projects in Bangladesh, supported by GIZ and KfW Development Bank, are playing a significant role in enhancing climate resilience and promoting sustainable development. He reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation and expressed interest in working more closely with Germany in the future.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of effective implementation of the “Bangladesh Climate Development Partnership (BCDP).” Bangladesh sought Germany’s support in mobilizing climate finance, implementing policy reforms, executing innovative projects, and facilitating knowledge exchange. Additionally, cooperation was requested in securing carbon credits from the carbon market.
