The Omoda 9 Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) has set a new benchmark for cost-efficient mobility in the country’s automobile market. In a recent range test, the vehicle covered 1,255 kilometers on a single full charge and one tank of 65 liters of fuel. This resulted in a travel cost of only Tk 6 per kilometer.

On Tuesday, 7 April, Omoda Jaecoo Sales announced that the long journey began from Tejgaon in Dhaka and extended through Cumilla, Chattogram, and Cox’s Bazar to Teknaf, before returning along the same route. During the trip, the vehicle also crossed the Padma Bridge via Mawa. Although the company had previously claimed a range of 1,200 kilometers, the real-world test on Bangladeshi roads exceeded that figure by an additional 55 kilometers.

According to the automobile distributor, the key to this remarkable performance lies in its ‘Super Hybrid System (SHS),’ which combines a 1.5-liter turbo engine with triple electric motors to ensure maximum fuel efficiency.

Josh Timothy, Senior Executive of Omoda Jaecoo Sales, and Mustavi, Admin of Cars and Conversation, stated that such low operating cost and long-distance capability in the premium SUV category would elevate the Omoda 9 Plug-in Hybrid to a unique position in the country’s hybrid vehicle market. The successful test was primarily conducted to eliminate ‘range anxiety’—the fear of running out of charge—especially during inter-district travel.
