PM Works Through Holiday, Urges Officials to Uphold Discipline and Deliver on Mandate

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman remained at work despite the government holiday, spending a busy day at his office in Tejgaon on Saturday, 28 February. Although the day carried a holiday atmosphere, he engaged in meetings with officials and employees from various departments from the morning onward.

Heads of departments and agencies under the Prime Minister’s Office, along with its officials and staff members, attended the exchange meeting held at Shapla Hall. This was the Prime Minister’s first such meeting with them since assuming office.

Among those present at the meeting were the Prime Minister’s advisers, including Mirza Abbas, Md Ismail Zabiullah, Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, Humayun Kabir, Brigadier General (Retd.) Shamsul Islam, Dr Zahed Ur Rahman, and Mahdi Amin.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister instructed officials to maintain confidentiality in the interest of the country and the state, and to strictly adhere to government rules and regulations. He emphasized the responsible role of public servants in steering the nation along a disciplined path.

Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister A B M Abdus Sattar delivered the welcome address at the meeting. Later, Director General of the Prime Minister’s Office Mohammad Abdul Wadud Chowdhury presented an overview of the office’s structure and functions.

Addressing the officials and employees, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said that the people of Bangladesh are looking to the government with high expectations. Noting that officials and staff are integral parts of the government, he said, “The government will perform well only when you cooperate with it.”

He further stated that every political party has an election manifesto and that through a fair election, the জনগণ have delivered a verdict in favor of implementing the election manifesto of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). Therefore, he stressed that all concerned must work in accordance with the commitments made to fulfill the expectations of the people.

The Prime Minister called for dedicated efforts to transform the lives of the country’s people. He underscored the need to promptly implement the priority-based agenda outlined in the manifesto, including healthcare, education, women’s education, employment, and sports. He sought active cooperation from officials and employees to achieve these goals.

He reiterated that the people are looking to the government with considerable expectations and that officials and staff are part of that government. “We consider this country our first and last address. Therefore, it is our responsibility to work for changing the destiny of the people,” he said.

Urging all to ensure the overall security of the citizens, the Prime Minister said that collective efforts would make it possible to achieve national goals. He also expressed hope that officials and employees would extend full cooperation in eliminating corruption.
