Technology giant Apple Inc. is speeding up the development of three new AI-powered wearable devices to stay competitive. The devices include an AI Pin, AI-driven smart glasses, and camera-equipped AirPods, according to TechCrunch.

A report by Bloomberg in the United States stated that all three devices will work in conjunction with iPhones, with the virtual assistant Siri being a key part of the user experience.

The most eye-catching device may be Apple’s smart glasses. According to internal sources, the glasses, codenamed “N50,” will feature a high-resolution camera and are being designed to compete with Meta’s successful smart glasses.

The report notes that the glasses will not have a display; instead, interaction will occur through speakers, microphones, and cameras. They will include two camera lenses—one for capturing photos and videos and another for “computer vision,” which will allow the device to understand its surroundings. This could enable visual intelligence features, such as identifying food ingredients or extracting information from posters to save in a calendar.

Initial prototypes relied on a separate battery pack and wired connection to an iPhone, but the new version integrates all components within the frame. Apple is also designing frames in various sizes and colors. Production is expected to begin in December, with market availability projected in 2027.

The Apple AI Pin device will resemble Apple’s tracking device, the AirTag, and can be clipped onto clothing or worn like a necklace. Unlike the discontinued Humon AI Pin, it will not include a display or projector. The AI Pin will act as the “eyes and ears” for the iPhone, collecting data through cameras and microphones and relying on the iPhone for processing. If equipped with a speaker, users could engage in conversations without taking out their iPhone. The device remains in the early stages and could still be canceled.

Additionally, Apple is developing camera-equipped AirPods to assist AI operations. The cameras are not expected to be high-resolution but will provide contextual information to the AI assistant, potentially similar to the Apple Vision Pro camera. These AirPods could hit the market later this year.

Meta, Snap, and other companies are already working on similar devices. Recently, Apple CEO Tim Cook hinted at a new “product category” during an employee meeting. While iPhone sales remain strong, analysts believe Apple is behind in AI technology, with Siri upgrades repeatedly delayed. Consequently, the success of these new devices will largely depend on how much Siri can be improved.
