Tech Knowledge Exchange: China Proposes Dual Summits for Bangladeshi Media Professionals

Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Yao Wen, has proposed organizing two summits in China in July and October to facilitate the exchange of technological knowledge and skills among Bangladeshi journalists and intellectuals.

He made the proposal on Thursday, 16 April, during a courtesy meeting with Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan at the Secretariat. During the meeting, the Chinese envoy also expressed interest in signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Information to strengthen cooperation between the state media of the two countries through organizing fairs.

During the meeting, the Information Minister said that China is a long-standing, tested, and reliable friend of Bangladesh. He noted that expanding cooperation in the field of information and communication technology (ICT) between the two countries would play a significant role in mutual development and capacity building.

Also present at the meeting were State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Chowdhury, the Prime Minister’s Information Adviser Dr. Zahedur Rahman, and Information Secretary Mahbuba Farzana.

The Information Minister stated that the ICT sector is undergoing rapid transformation in the global context. To remain competitive in this evolving environment and to develop a skilled workforce, international cooperation is essential. In this regard, joint initiatives with China would create new opportunities for Bangladesh.

He further said that China’s technological advancement and experience offer valuable learning opportunities for Bangladesh. He expressed hope that enhanced collaboration in media, training, and public communication would further strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
