WordPress Unveils AI Assistant for Smarter Site Management

Website development and hosting platform WordPress.com has launched a new artificial intelligence (AI) assistant designed to simplify website management. On Tuesday, 17 February, the company announced that the tool allows users to modify content, design, and images on their websites using simple natural-language instructions, according to TechCrunch.

The tool, named WordPress AI Assistant, operates within the website itself, understanding the layout and content to execute user commands in real time. Complex instructions are not required. For instance, users can instruct, “Make this section more modern or spacious,” “Brighten the colors of my site,” or “Provide cleaner and more professional font options,” and the AI will implement the changes immediately.

Users can also add new pages using AI, such as “Create a contact page” or “Add a testimonial section below this part.” However, this functionality is only available for block themes and does not support classic themes.

AI assistance extends to content editing as well. Users can enhance their bios, translate sections into other languages, receive headline suggestions, verify facts, and correct grammar. These tasks can be executed through the Block Notes Editor introduced in WordPress 6.9, which also allows collaborative editing among team members. By typing @ai, the AI responds with relevant content, including links and references.

For images, AI support is integrated via Google Gemini’s Nano Banana model, enabling users to generate new images or edit existing ones. In the Media Library, the “Generate Image” button allows users to select image dimensions and styles before creation.

The AI assistant can be activated by any user by navigating to the site list, clicking the site name, entering Settings, scrolling to AI Tools, and toggling Enable AI Assistant. For users who purchase sites with the AI website builder, the assistant will be automatically enabled.
