Gazipur Goes Cashless with a2i–City Corporation Deal
To deliver modern and cashless services at citizens’ doorsteps, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between Gazipur City Corporation and Aspire to Innovate (a2i).
The agreement was formally signed on Sunday, 8 February, at the a2i Conference Room located in the ICT Tower, Agargaon, Dhaka.
As a result of this agreement, residents of Gazipur City Corporation will now be able to pay fees for various civic services—including holding tax, trade licences, water supply, and sewerage services—anytime and from anywhere through a2i’s integrated payment gateway, EkPay.
The payment system will support multiple channels, including mobile banking (bKash, Nagad, Upay, Rocket, Tap, TeleCash), card banking (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, TakaPay), internet banking, and e-wallets.
The event was chaired by a2i Project Director (Additional Secretary) Md Abdus Rafiq. The Chief Guest was Gazipur City Corporation Chief Executive Officer (Joint Secretary) Muhammad Sohel Hasan. Special Guest remarks were delivered by a2i Joint Project Director (Joint Secretary) Md Rashidul Mannaf Kabir. The welcome address was given by a2i Head of Programme Management Abdullah Al Fahim.
Also present at the event were a2i Chief Technology Officer Mohammad Masudur Rahman, Head of Communications Mohammad Safiul Azam, EkPay Consultant Muhammad Shahadat Hossain, along with senior officials from a2i and Gazipur City Corporation.
Emphasising a2i’s commitment to making citizen services more modern and people-friendly, Md Abdus Rafiq said that digitalisation of government services ensures greater transparency and ease.
“As a service recipient, I want to receive services virtually, easily, and within a short time. With Gazipur City Corporation’s services becoming digitally payable through EkPay, the people of Gazipur will benefit significantly. We also consider ourselves fortunate to be part of this process,” he added.
Muhammad Sohel Hasan said that digital payment systems are essential to reducing public inconvenience, describing the initiative as an important step toward building a New Bangladesh.
He noted that extensive verification was conducted before launching EkPay services and said the agreement would allow Gazipur residents to pay civic service fees online at any time without standing in long queues, bringing transparency and efficiency to the city corporation’s revenue management.
Md Rashidul Mannaf Kabir said,
“Gazipur City Corporation is the fifth city corporation to join us on this journey. We are optimistic that people will benefit greatly from this service.”
Highlighting the objectives and scope of the MoU, Abdullah Al Fahim said that the launch of EkPay services marks another step forward in the commitment to building a cashless, modern, and citizen-friendly Bangladesh.
“This initiative brings services closer to people’s doorsteps, and we will continue to provide our full support to achieve this goal,” he added.
