For the first time in Bangladesh, an unlimited triple play service has been launched through a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO).

The pilot programme of the service was inaugurated on Sunday, 8 February, at the Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) Ramna office by Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser in charge of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb said that the pilot launch of BTCL’s MVNO SIM and triple play service aims to make Bangladesh’s digital life simpler, more affordable, and more integrated. He described it as a converged digital initiative that brings voice, data, and entertainment onto a single platform.

He noted that BTCL is one of the country’s key institutions, possessing almost all types of telecommunications licences along with a nationwide fibre network. Leveraging this capability, initiatives have been taken to rebrand BTCL and transform it into a modern digital service platform, he added.

Explaining the core concept of the triple play service, Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb said the main objective is to ensure a seamless digital experience both at home and on the move through a single SIM and a single connection. Users will be able to access the same services via Wi-Fi at home and mobile data while outdoors.

He further said that the integrated pilot combining MVNO SIMs, the ‘Alap’ app, ‘Jeepon’ broadband, and OTT content has already been completed successfully, noting that the entire system was developed by BTCL’s own engineers.

Referring to customer surveys on MVNO and triple play services, the Special Assistant said that nearly 90 percent of respondents viewed bundled mobile and broadband packages positively. He added that the service would create market competition, improve service quality, and help reduce piracy.

Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb also said that the service would be commercially launched from Ramna and Gulshan immediately after the election, with future plans including device-integrated quad-play services and nationwide fibre expansion.

He reiterated that the initiative is aimed at making people’s digital lives more seamless and convenient.

Under the MVNO model, unlimited mobile services are provided without owning mobile network infrastructure. In the initial phase, BTCL is delivering the service using the network of Teletalk Bangladesh Limited.

Under this service, customers will enjoy unlimited voice calls and unlimited internet access. The app-based IP calling service ‘Alap’ will also be included on the platform.

Additionally, GPON connections with routers, unlimited internet, and popular OTT content platforms such as Toffee—offering dramas and movies—will be bundled with the MVNO service. By integrating unlimited voice, unlimited data, unlimited broadband, and digital content, quad-play services will also be introduced.

BTCL aims to build a modern, integrated, and customer-friendly telecommunications ecosystem that is affordable, smart, and inclusive. The MVNO initiative is expected to help reduce OTT content piracy, address existing challenges in mobile network usage, and ensure maximum utilisation of BTCL’s existing infrastructure.

According to relevant analysts, the launch of BTCL’s MVNO service marks the beginning of a new chapter in Bangladesh’s telecommunications sector, playing a crucial role in building a smart, inclusive, and digitally connected future.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Secretary of the Posts and Telecommunications Division Abdun Naser Khan, BTCL Managing Director Md Mamunur Rashid, Teletalk Bangladesh Limited Managing Director Nurul Mabud Chowdhury, along with officials and employees of BTCL and Teletalk.
