BTRC Files Disciplinary Cases Against Two Dismissed Officials

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has filed disciplinary cases against Mahdi Ahmad, former Deputy Director of the Engineering & Operations (E&O) Division, and Amjad Hossain Nipu, former Deputy Director of the Administration Division.
To investigate the allegations, BTRC has formed two separate inquiry committees, instructing them to submit their reports to the Chairman within 30 working days.
The committee investigating Mahdi Ahmad’s case is led by Brigadier General Shafiul Alam Parvez, Director General of the E&O Division, with Tareq Hasan Siddiqui, Director of the Legal Division, as a member, and Nahidul Hasan, Deputy Director of the Licensing Division, as the Member Secretary.
The committee probing Amjad Hossain Nipu’s case is chaired by Brigadier General Aminul Haque, Director General of the Spectrum Division, with Lieutenant Colonel Syed Md. Toufikul Islam, Director of the Licensing Division, as a member, and Mehfuz Bin Khaled, Deputy Director of the Spectrum Division, as the Member Secretary.
Earlier, on August 5, following the fall of the Awami League government, over 100 BTRC officials and employees demanded the dismissal of Mahdi Ahmad and Amjad Hossain Nipu, accusing them of forming syndicates and engaging in various irregularities. At that time, Amjad Hossain Nipu reportedly collaborated with Azad Hossain, the Private Secretary to then BTRC Chairman, Engineer Mohiuddin Ahmed, to commit administrative misconduct.
Under pressure from employees, BTRC temporarily suspended both officials and launched an internal probe. Preliminary findings confirmed their involvement in misconduct, leading the commission to initiate formal disciplinary proceedings on January 23 and form the two separate inquiry committees.
