Tarique Rahman Seeks Prayers for His Mother Late Khaleda Zia On Facebook
BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has requested prayers from the nation for his mother, former Prime Minister and late BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, expressing deep gratitude for the love, emotion, and global respect shown toward her.
In a post shared on his verified Facebook page on Tuesday, December 30, shortly after 2:00 pm, Tarique Rahman wrote, “I request everyone to pray for my mother. I and my family are eternally grateful for the affection, love, and worldwide respect shown by the people of this country toward her.”
He stated that Begum Khaleda Zia responded to the call of Almighty Allah and passed away earlier that day, adding, “Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Raji’un.” Tarique Rahman noted that she had lost her husband and a child for the country, and as a result, “this country and its people became her family, her identity, and her very existence.”
In his message, he said that to many she was known as the Deshnetri—an uncompromising leader; to others, she was the mother of democracy and the mother of Bangladesh. He added that the nation is deeply mourning the loss of a guiding figure who played an irreplaceable role in Bangladesh’s democratic journey.
Describing her from a personal perspective, Tarique Rahman said, “To me, Khaleda Zia was a compassionate mother who dedicated her entire life to the country and its people.” He recalled that she fought relentlessly against autocracy, fascism, and domination, and led struggles to establish independence, sovereignty, and democracy.
He further said that despite a life marked by sacrifice and struggle, she remained a true guardian of her family—“a guiding light whose boundless love gave us strength and inspiration even in the darkest times.” He noted that she was repeatedly arrested, deprived of medical treatment, and subjected to severe repression, yet she continued to instil courage, compassion, and patriotism among her family members even amid pain, isolation, and uncertainty.
