After overcoming a prolonged period of stagnation, the Bangladesh Computer Samity (BCS) has returned to rhythm, as the newly elected Executive Committee reunited with its members at the BCS Carnival 2025. The day-long annual gathering was held on Friday, December 19, at Shaldah Eco Resort on the outskirts of the capital.

More than 1,500 members from different parts of Dhaka participated in the event, which featured sports, games, and various competitions throughout the day, culminating in an evening picnic-style celebration.

The event featured biscuit races and 100-meter sprints for children, along with Ludo, chess, poetry recitation, singing, and drawing competitions. Male members participated in football, cricket, pot-breaking, and rope-pulling, while women competed in pillow-passing. Additionally, there were professional exchanges and team-building activities with ICT sector leaders, stakeholders, entrepreneurs, and partners. Participants also enjoyed electric vehicle tours of the venue, cable car rides, boating, and swimming. Young children had a delightful time engaging in various games.

During the closing segment of the pre-scheduled programme, deep condolences were expressed and prayers were offered for the departed soul of martyr Sharif Osman Hadi, the chief coordinator of Inqilab Mancha, who was killed by gunfire. His martyrdom cast a sombre note over the otherwise festive occasion.

Before distributing prizes among the competition winners, BCS President Mohammad Zahirul Islam said in his address that the nation had just lost one of its valuable sons in Sharif Osman Hadi. “Every word he spoke from the Inqilab Mancha was justified. By killing him, attempts have been made to obstruct our spirit, will, and objectives. Each of his words must be implemented,” he said.

He described Hadi’s death as an irreparable loss to the country, noting that a promising young life had been cut short by criminals’ bullets. “We hope Sharif Osman Hadi will not remain alone; we must nurture and uphold many more Hadis like him,” he added.

Referring to the vacuum created within BCS after the July mass uprising, the business leader stressed the need to rebuild momentum and expand the computer market in close coordination with the current and future governments. He said BCS is working to expand the ICT market size threefold and has initiated efforts to increase budgetary allocation for the ICT sector to at least one percent.

Zahirul Islam further announced that a one-and-a-half-year action plan would be unveiled from January to help implement commitments outlined in election manifestos through coordinated initiatives.

Among those present at the event were BCS Secretary General Muhammad Monirul Islam, Joint Secretary General Md Ahsanul Islam Naushad, Treasurer Abul Hasan, Director Md Iqbal Hossain, and former BCS Secretary General and Chairman of Speed Technology and Engineering Limited, Mosharraf Hossain, among others.

BCS Director Md. Iqbal Hossain anchored the day-long event. BCS Secretary-General Muhammad Monirul Islam and Mr. Abu Tuhin Chowdhury, Chairman of the Event Management Standing Committee, managed the reception and guest relations. Treasurer Abul Hasan served as the Co-Convener. Director Md. Nazrul Islam Hazari oversaw transportation management. The Vice-President, Md. Wahidul Hasan Dipu, and Joint Secretary-General Md. Ahsanul Islam Naushad were in charge of sports and cultural programs.

Associate sponsors for the event included Asus, Brother, QDI, Dahua, Dell, DigitalX, Epson, Lenovo (Global Brand PLC), Jeskill, Hikvision, HP, AITC Kingsman (Mizan Trade), Pentam, Diveeger (UCV), Ryans Computers, Lenovo (Smart Technologies Ltd.), Star-Tech Engineering Ltd., Tenda (South Bangla Computer), Totolink, TP-Link, Excel Technologies Ltd., Transcend, UCC, Uniview, Computer City Technologies Ltd., DCC (Dhaka Computer City), Dream Tech, A2Z, Kingston (Marvelous Computer), and Henz Bangladesh.
