Senior officials of Bangladesh Krishi Bank (BKB) met with the Governor of Bangladesh Bank to discuss the bank's overall financial situation, non-performing loans, agricultural loan activities, remittance flow, and digital transformation. During the meeting, Governor Abdur Rouf Talukder instructed Krishi Bank to move forward with technology-based and modern management practices in the current context.
Sanchia Binte Ali, Managing Director (MD) of Krishi Bank, reported this after the meeting held on Monday, May 11th. Deputy Managing Directors Md. A. Rahim and Moha. Khaleduzzaman was also present.
Regarding the meeting's discussions, Sanchia Binte Ali said that the bank's current situation was presented in detail to the governor. It was specifically mentioned that Krishi Bank is working wholeheartedly to implement the government's program to waive agricultural loans up to Tk 10,000.
She stated that the bank is working sincerely to ensure farmers' benefits. Additionally, a positive trend has developed in loan recovery compared to the past few years. The governor was also informed that Krishi Bank holds a top position among government banks in remittance collection.
She further mentioned that the bank is managing a vast network of 1,083 branches with limited manpower. In this situation, the governor advised focusing on automation and digitalization to improve service quality.
According to bank officials, the governor stated that as a specialized bank, Krishi Bank does not only work for profit. However, in the current reality, it must move forward with technology-dependent and modern management practices. He emphasized adopting new ideas and initiatives for this purpose.
When asked if any specific instructions were given regarding the recovery of non-performing loans, officials said that no specific instructions were provided. However, the governor listened to the bank's problems carefully and advised planning to further strengthen development activities.
