Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Monday (15 December) unveiled a commemorative postage stamp, a first-day cover and a special cancellation seal to mark the Great Victory Day, aiming to preserve and honour the nation’s glorious history of independence.

The commemorative items were formally released on December 15 at a ceremony held at the state guest house Jamuna in the capital, Dhaka.

Several senior government officials were present at the event, including the Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant Faiz Ahmed Taiyeb, Secretary of the Information and Communication Technology Division Shish Haider Chowdhury, Secretary of the Posts and Telecommunications Division Abdun Naser Khan, and Director General of the Department of Posts SM Shahab Uddin.

The initiative was taken to commemorate the historic significance of Victory Day and to pay tribute to the sacrifices made during the Liberation War, which culminated in Bangladesh’s independence on December 16, 1971.

Commemorative stamps are issued for a limited period to honour notable individuals, historic events, important anniversaries or elements of national heritage. Distinct from regular postage stamps, they often feature special designs and informative elements, reflecting the cultural and historical legacy of a nation.

Beyond their postal use, commemorative stamps serve as enduring symbols of national identity, preserving collective memory and promoting awareness of a country’s history and cultural heritage among present and future generations.
