The country’s first-ever international standard digital skills competition—V-Tutor Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Bangladesh Championship 2025—was launched from the East West University campus in Dhaka. The qualifying round of the Olympiad took place on Saturday from 11:00 am to 2:30 pm across four computer labs on campus.

In the Microsoft Word category, Ishrak Uddin secured first place, followed by MD Ashraful Islam in second and Mohammad saif in third. In the PowerPoint category, Mubarrat Ahmad Samin emerged first, followed by Nawrin Islam and Tasnim Ibrahim. The winners of the Excel category were Mohammad Mostafa (first), Fardin (second), and Mosfeq (third).

The event was inaugurated in the presence of East West University Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. Mohammad Ashiq Mosaddek. Also present were V-Tutor Bangladesh’s Co-founder and Chief Training Officer Kazi Shamim, 15 volunteers, and the university’s computer lab staff. The competition was conducted by V-Tutor Co-founder and Chief Academic Officer Muttaki Faruq.

Faruq explained that participants had to complete 35 practical, project-based tasks—structured in a 5x7 format—within 50 minutes using the GMetrix software across Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. A total of 60 contestants took part in the competition from East West University.

“From today’s event, nine top performers—three from each category—were selected based on speed and accuracy,” he said. “They have earned a direct ticket to the National Round on May 23 and the Grand Finale, without paying the standard Microsoft registration fee of BDT 12,500.” He added that a total of 300 participants will be selected from six universities across the country for the National Round. “Those who narrowly missed the top three positions today will also be considered for inclusion in the 300,” he added. “From this pool, nine contestants will move on to the Gala Round.”

According to sources, registration for the competition will remain open until May 20. Over 600 students have already registered. Supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the championship will be held at the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) on May 16 and at the University of Business and Technology (BUP) on May 21. Similar Olympiads will be hosted at Dhaka University, Independent University Bangladesh (IUB), and United International University (UIU).

In the divisional rounds, up to three contestants from each category will be declared “Champions.” From there, ten will be shortlisted for the national stage. The national winners will earn the opportunity to achieve Microsoft Certification.

Additionally, three top contenders from a longlist of finalists will participate in a special “Grooming Session” before entering the prestigious “Gala Round.” Winners of this final round will represent Bangladesh at the Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship in Florida, USA.
