Airport Anomaly Averts: Ansar Member Dismissed for Attempted Phone Theft
An Ansar member has been permanently dismissed from service for attempting to secretly take button phones from the site of the recent fire at the cargo village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. The dismissed member has been identified as Zainarul Islam.
The action was confirmed on Friday, 7 November, through an official press release issued by Md. Ashikuzzaman, Deputy Director and Public Relations Officer of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party.
He stated that the incident occurred on Wednesday night, 5 November, while the Ansar member was on night duty. Zainarul Islam was assigned to work from 10:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. During this shift, driven by greed, he attempted to hide and take away several button phones found among the burnt debris inside the damaged building. He was caught red-handed at the scene.
Considering the gravity of the incident, he was immediately and permanently dismissed from service on grounds of disciplinary misconduct.
The official further said, “By taking punitive action in the quickest possible time, the force has set an example. Although this may reduce certain unethical tendencies that have persisted for years, psychological management within the force has already been intensified to eliminate such conduct completely.”
He also pointed out the socio-economic challenges faced by rank-and-file Ansar personnel: “Members deployed at key national establishments often struggle to meet their basic living expenses on limited salaries. In this regard, the Director General has already appealed to the Chairman of the Pay Commission for a reasonable increase in wages of the enlisted Ansar members, so that their moral and motivational standards can be further strengthened.”
Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party has long served with competence, integrity, and professionalism at key national installations and Key Point Installations (KPIs). The authority emphasized its strong stance in maintaining discipline, ensuring that misconduct by any individual member does not tarnish the image of the entire force.
Through prompt disciplinary measures and continued welfare-oriented initiatives, the organization hopes to further minimize isolated unethical activities among its personnel under a strict zero-tolerance policy.
