Students of the Department of Software Engineering at Daffodil International University (DIU) have developed a robot named KITY, capable of delivering food across university campuses, residential neighborhoods, and even commercial areas.

The autonomous delivery robot is equipped with a camera instead of eyes, alongside a navigation system and sensors to detect obstacles ahead. It can move along designated routes using GPS and mapping technology.

On August 18 (Monday), the robot was unveiled at the university’s Aminul Islam Hall by its innovator, DIU Assistant Professor of Software Engineering, Hafizul Imran. He explained, “The Department of Software Engineering at Daffodil International University has developed this robot for the autonomous delivery of food. The journey of building this robot began in 2022. Currently, this is the first version of KITY, designed primarily to serve university campuses and residential areas.”

The launch ceremony was presided over by DIU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M. R. Kabir. Also present were Director General of the Department of Patents, Designs and Trademarks, Jahangir Hossain; Deputy Director (Patent) Habibur Rahman; Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies Professor Dr. Kabirul Islam; and DIU Consultant (Patent) Dr. Md. Zahirul Islam, among others.
