Luxury carmaker Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), owned by Tata Motors, has been hit hard by a cyberattack that disrupted both its manufacturing operations and sales services.

Tata Motors described the incident as a “major IT issue” with global repercussions and confirmed that it has reported the attack to India’s stock market regulator. The company said it has taken “immediate action” to mitigate the impact and is working to restore its operations.

The news was first reported by the Liverpool Echo, which revealed that the attack forced JLR to shut down its Merseyside plant and instruct workers not to report to duty. Employees at the Halewood factory were notified via email on Monday morning to stay home, while those already at work were sent back.

According to BBC, the attack also hit JLR’s main UK production hub at Solihull, leading to further disruption and staff being sent home.

Citing the company, British daily The Independent reported that although JLR’s network has been severely compromised, there is no evidence so far of customer data being stolen.

In an official statement, JLR said: “Jaguar Land Rover has been the victim of a cyberattack. We have taken immediate steps to mitigate the impact and, as a precaution, have shut down a number of systems to prevent further harm. We are now working at pace to safely bring our global systems back online in a controlled manner. At this time, there is no evidence that customer data has been stolen. However, our retail and production operations have been significantly disrupted.”
