Partial international flight operations are set to begin at Cox’s Bazar Airport by mid-October, according to Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), Air Vice Marshal Md. Mostafa Mahmud Siddiqi.

Speaking to journalists on October 17 after inspecting the progress of the airport’s new terminal and runway, he said, “Today we inspected the progress of construction of the airport’s second terminal and the runway being built over the sea. Based on the current progress, it seems possible to begin partial international flight operations from Cox’s Bazar Airport by mid-October.”

In response to a query, he added, “It is difficult to specify the exact percentage of completion, but starting by mid-October will be possible. Our preparations are nearing completion for this.”

During the inspection, Project Director of Cox’s Bazar Airport Mohammad Yunus Bhuiyan, Airport Manager Golam Mortuza Hasan, and other officials were present.

According to CAAB sources, 1,700 feet of the runway is being constructed over the sea. Upon completion, the total runway length will be 10,700 feet or 3.26 kilometers, making it the longest runway in the country. Aircraft will effectively take off and land touching the edge of the sea.
