The Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s student wing, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, has issued a directive urging its leaders and activists to uphold humility, refinement, tolerance, organizational discipline, and mutual respect in all matters on social media.

The announcement was made on Sunday night, August 10, through a statement signed by Mohammad Jahangir Alam, the organization’s Office Secretary.

The statement emphasized that in the current era of information technology, social media has become a primary platform for public expression, with its importance and reach continuously expanding. It called on all levels of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal’s leadership to demonstrate responsibility, tolerance, respect for diverse opinions and paths, commitment to democracy, respect for women, religious coexistence, and adherence to religious principles while using social media.

“In this regard, it is essential to behave consistently with the organization’s ideals, principles, and organizational practices. While ideological differences and debates over policies and methods with other groups are natural, such discussions must remain respectful and courteous,” the statement read.

The directive also reiterated the organization’s respect for all women and its ongoing encouragement of greater female participation in politics. It warned that any behavior inconsistent with the organization’s stance on this matter would prompt appropriate disciplinary action.

Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal affirmed its belief in religious freedom and coexistence for all faiths. Regarding the Muslim community’s practice of purdah, the statement expressed “full respect” for the observance of this religious injunction.

Highlighting past protests, the statement noted that the organization has repeatedly opposed attempts to impose restrictions on purdah in educational institutions under the guise of secularism and pledged to continue doing so.

The organization stressed that its leaders and activists must follow the principles of humility, refinement, tolerance, organizational discipline, and mutual goodwill in their conduct on social media.

The directive was issued by the BNP Student Wing’s President Rakibul Islam Rakib and General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir on the same day.
