Ehsanul Kabir, also known as Amit, a brilliant student who ranked 81st in the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) entrance examination this year, is now fighting for his life as cancer has aggressively spread to his lymph nodes.

According to his family, Ehsanul was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2022. Following the diagnosis, his treatment began immediately at Square Hospital in Dhaka, where he underwent two years of chemotherapy. Although the treatment initially helped him recover, his condition relapsed earlier this year. The latest medical tests in April revealed that the cancer had reactivated and metastasized to the lymph nodes in his abdomen. Doctors have informed the family that chemotherapy is no longer a viable option. The only chance of saving his life now lies in an urgent bone marrow transplant.

The estimated cost of the transplant and associated medical care stands at approximately BDT 5.5 million (55 lakh taka), a sum the family is struggling to arrange. Ehsanul’s father, Humayun Kabir Liton, who once ran a small business but is currently unemployed, has already spent around BDT 4 million (40 lakh taka) on his son’s treatment by selling off family land. With no resources left, he is now appealing to the public for support to save his son.

Those willing to help can contribute through Mosammat Rubina Yasmin’s bank account (Account Number: 4111134089238, Sonali Bank PLC, Ishwardi Branch, Pabna) or via bKash to 01763391112 (Ehsanul’s sister).

Ehsanul’s sister, Romana Kabir, shared that they have already received an invitation from Tata Memorial Hospital in India for treatment, but the visa process is currently pending.

Amit, who recently secured admission to BUET’s Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) department, hails from West Tengri Kacharipara in Ishwardi upazila of Pabna. His parents, Humayun Kabir and Runu Kabir, raised him with hope and determination. He is the younger of two siblings. Ehsanul excelled in academics, securing GPA 5 in both SSC from the Sugarcane Research High School and HSC from Rajshahi College, along with a board scholarship.

“My son is becoming weaker by the day, and the treatment must begin immediately,” said Humayun Kabir, desperately appealing for public assistance. “I have nothing left to sell. I don’t know how we will gather the required money.”

With a trembling voice, Ehsanul’s mother Runu Kabir added, “I can’t bear to look at my son. My heart breaks seeing him like this. He wants to live, he wants to study and become someone. I sincerely request prayers and help from everyone to save his life.”

Md. Hasanuzzaman, acting headmaster of Sugarcane Research High School, commented, “Amit was one of our brightest and most well-mannered students. Even during his illness, his courage and perseverance have inspired us all. I believe it is our duty to save such a gifted student. We are trying our best, and I urge the affluent members of society to come forward and help this young talent survive and thrive.”
