CID Confirms Identities of Five Victims in Uttara Plane Crash Through DNA Analysis

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Bangladesh Police has confirmed the identities of five individuals who perished in the tragic military aircraft crash at Milestone School and College in Uttara, Dhaka, by conducting forensic DNA testing. The victims’ bodies were severely disfigured in the incident.
According to CID, forensic experts collected a total of 11 DNA samples from unidentified remains and body parts preserved at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka on July 22, the day after the crash. From these, the DNA profiles of five females were successfully extracted and matched with samples provided by family members of the presumed victims.
The five identified victims are Okiya Ferdous Nidhi, Lamia Akhter Sonia, Afsana Akhter Priya, Raisa Moni, and Mariam Umme Afia.
Special Police Superintendent of CID, Jasim Uddin Khan, provided this update on Thursday afternoon, July 24.
He stated, "On July 22, a day after the plane crash at Milestone School and College, members of our forensic DNA lab collected 11 DNA samples from the unidentified bodies and parts preserved at CMH. Upon analysis, we were able to extract DNA profiles from five female individuals. These were then matched with DNA profiles of 11 family members from five different families collected up to July 23, leading to successful identification."
According to sources, one of the samples matched with the daughter of Md. Faruk Hossain and Salma Akhter—identified as Okiya Ferdous Nidhi. Another sample matched the profile of Raisa Moni, daughter of Md. Shahabul Sheikh and Mim. Similarly, one sample was identified as belonging to Mariam Umme Afia, daughter of Abdul Kadir and Umme Tamima Akhter.
From six other samples, one female DNA profile was identified and confirmed to be Lamia Akhter Sonia, daughter of Md. Babul and Majeda. Additionally, two more samples yielded one profile, identified as Afsana Akhter Priya, daughter of Md. Abbas Uddin and Mosammat Minu Akhter.
The tragic crash, which claimed multiple lives and injured several others, occurred at the school premises when a military aircraft lost control and crashed during a routine maneuver. Authorities continue their investigation into the incident while offering support to the affected families.
