The interim government has emphasized finalizing the National Semiconductor Policy and enhancing fabrication, simulation, and testing capabilities across university laboratories, ensuring equitable access for all academic and industrial researchers. This commitment was articulated by Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, ICT and Telecom Affairs Advisor to the Head of Government, during his virtual address at the second day of the "Biotech, Electronics, AI & Robotics Summit and Semiconductor Symposium" on July 17.

Taiyeb stated, “While BUET is being equipped for semiconductor training and capacity building, the government will also ensure that the lab facilities there are accessible to researchers from other public and private universities.” He stressed the importance of inclusivity and shared opportunities to strengthen the national innovation ecosystem.

He further announced a nationwide training initiative aiming to prepare around 5,000 skilled professionals in VLSI-related layout design, fabrication, and simulation over the next three years. “To reduce the burden on industry players, semiconductor testing lab access will also be extended,” he added, noting that a common shared facility approach would be key to tripling the country’s existing semiconductor capabilities.

Taiyeb also revealed that policy frameworks on semiconductors and artificial intelligence will be drafted and published based on guidelines emerging from the ongoing symposium.
