Rocketing Curiosity: Young Minds Launch Toward the Stars at BUBT Workshop
The atmosphere was electric with excitement and joy as rockets built by children and teenagers soared into the sky. With a mission to spark young minds’ interest in space science and innovation, the Space Innovation Camp hosted the exhilarating Rocket Adventure Day at the Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) on Saturday.
Held from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM in BUBT’s international conference hall, the day-long program welcomed students from 100 schools across the country. Divided into age-based teams, the participants took part in hands-on model rocket-making workshops.
The primary goal of the event was to foster a love for science among children and adolescents, stimulate their interest in space and technology through practical learning, and enhance their creativity, problem-solving abilities, and teamwork through innovative projects such as rocket building.
The workshop offered students a high-quality, STEAM-based (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) experience without leaving Bangladesh. Participants built and launched six different types of model rockets: Saturn V, Space Shuttle, Delta-2, Starship, Artemis II, and Falcon 9. They learned about the fundamentals of rocket structures, Newton’s Third Law, thrust and gravity, parachute deployment mechanisms, and the mathematical calculations required for a successful launch. Each team was guided throughout the workshop by an experienced mission controller and space crew in a fully interactive learning environment.
At the end of the workshop, a graduation ceremony was held, where every participant received a certificate and medal in recognition of their achievement.
Speaking as the chief guest, Professor Dr. Ali Ahmad, Treasurer of BUBT, remarked, “Today’s event is not just a rocket workshop; it is the beginning of opening a door to innovation and future thinking for our children. If our children are given such hands-on science opportunities from a young age, they will not only shine nationally but also enhance Bangladesh’s image globally.”
Ariful Hasan Apu, President of the Space Innovation Camp, said, “Our main objective is to provide children with practical education in science and space to create real-life experiences. Today’s Rocket Adventure Day plays a significant role in enhancing children's imagination, innovation, and problem-solving skills. Learning through playful engagement is the most effective method. We want every child to be ready for a technology- and science-driven future, and this type of initiative lays that foundation.”
Other distinguished attendees included Dr. Munshi Mahbubur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and Md. Saifur Rahman, Assistant Professor and Chairman of the CSE Department at BUBT.
BUBT served as the venue partner for the event. Whistle participated as an associate partner, Enigma Multimedia Ltd. as the storytelling partner, and E-Soft as the tech partner.
