CUET Club Celebrates Annual Meet with Festivity, Forums, and Forward-Looking Dialogues
The Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) Club, a creative social, cultural, and recreational association for CUET faculty and officers, held its Annual General Meeting, leadership handover, and prize-giving ceremony on Thursday, July 3.
The event, hosted at the CUET Club auditorium, was graced by the club's chief patron and Vice Chancellor of CUET, Professor Dr. Mohammad Mahmud Abdul Muttin Bhuiyan, as the chief guest. Presided over by outgoing Club President Professor Dr. Md. Moinul Islam, the program commenced with a welcome speech by General Secretary Professor Dr. Muhammad Rashidul Hasan.
Professor Dr. A. H. Rashedul Hossain, the newly elected President of the CUET Club, delivered a felicitation speech, while the event was jointly moderated by Professor Dr. Md. Sanaul Rabbi of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Treasurer Naeemur Rahman presented the club’s financial report for the previous year.
The day also featured a fruit festival and the awarding of prizes to winners of various sports competitions. The Club Championship title was awarded to Professor Dr. Md. Sanaul Rabbi (Mechanical Engineering), Professor Dr. G. M. Sadikul Islam (Civil Engineering), Associate Professor Md. Aminul Islam (Mechanical Engineering), and Mr. Md. Abdul Ahad (Accounts Officer, IT Business Incubator). The runner-up title went to Assistant Professor Nazmul Islam of the Humanities Department.
Earlier that day, the central auditorium hosted a seminar titled “Operational Challenges and User Experience of Dhaka Metro Rail: Lessons for Emerging Urban Transport Systems.” Special guests included former CUET Vice Chancellor and Professor of Civil Engineering Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam, and Acting Dean of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering Professor Dr. Asiful Haque. The resource person was Dhaka Metro Rail’s Managing Director Engineer Faruk Ahmed. The session was chaired by Professor Dr. Ayesha Akhter, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, and moderated by Assistant Professor Ms. Mukta Banu from the same department.
Additionally, the farewell event for the 19th batch of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering was held, followed by another seminar hosted at the IT Business Incubator auditorium by the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE). The seminar was titled “Research Challenges Beyond 5G and 6G Systems: Advancing Towards Meaningful Societal Impact.” Special guest for the event was Professor Dr. Kazi Delowar Hossain, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The keynote speaker was Associate Professor Dr. Ashraf-Uz-Zaman from Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden. Professor Dr. Tofayel Ahmed, Head of the EEE Department, chaired the seminar, and it was moderated by Associate Professor Dr. Joyprakash Chakraborty.
Delivering the keynote remarks, CUET Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Mahmud Abdul Muttin Bhuiyan said, “With technological advancement, we gain vital guidance on our future course of action. We expect 6G, the sixth-generation mobile network technology, to outperform 5G by offering higher speeds and improved performance. The core difference between the two lies in frequency and data transfer rates. 6G will operate at higher frequencies and provide significantly faster speeds and lower latency than 5G.”
