The 27th International Robot Olympiad (IRO) is set to take place this December in Gold Coast, Australia. Since 2018, Bangladesh has actively participated in this prestigious robotics competition, and once again, a national team will represent the country at this global event.

To that end, the Bangladesh Robot Olympiad (BDRO) and the Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN) have launched the selection and training activities for the International Robot Olympiad Bangladesh Open 2025. As part of the initiative, a volunteer training session marked the official inauguration on Friday, July 4.

The registration for the national competition will begin in August, followed by the national round scheduled for September. The campaign kicked off at 10 a.m. at the BdOSN office in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, with 26 volunteers receiving training. These volunteers will lead workshops and activation programs across educational institutions throughout July and August to raise awareness and prepare participants for the Bangladesh Open. They also gained hands-on experience operating Mars rover models as part of the training.

The International Robot Olympiad Committee (IROC) has declared “Space Robot” as the theme for the 27th edition, focusing on designing robots that can tackle challenges in space exploration. The Bangladesh Open will feature categories such as Creative, Creative Movie, and Physical Computing, and will be divided into three age groups: Junior Low (grades 1–4), Junior High (grades 5–6), and Senior (grades 7–12). Additionally, a Robotics Quiz will be held at the national level to foster further enthusiasm, although it will not be part of the international competition.

Previously known as the Bangladesh Robot Olympiad (BDRO), the national event has now been officially renamed as the International Robot Olympiad Bangladesh Open, following new guidelines from the IROC.

Notably, at the 26th International Robot Olympiad held in Busan, South Korea, the Bangladesh team earned an impressive haul of 10 medals, including two gold, four silver, and four bronze.
