BTRC Begins Full Transition to LIMS for Licensing Processes

In a move to ensure transparency and efficiency in licensing operations, the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has officially adopted the Licensing Information Management System (LIMS) as the sole platform for all licensing applications. Beginning May 17, on the occasion of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, the commission is set to launch its e-licensing services through the LIMS portal.
BTRC has already ceased accepting offline applications for new licenses, license renewals, address changes, and license modifications. Simultaneously, all existing license holders, registration certificate holders, and enlistment certificate holders have been instructed to urgently transition to the LIMS platform.
A notice issued by BTRC's Licensing Division on April 28, signed by Deputy Director Md. Nahidul Hasan, mandates that existing license-holding companies and new telecom service providers must create organization-specific accounts on the LIMS portal and submit all updated organizational information. The announcement also states that e-licenses will only be issued upon receipt and verification of all necessary and up-to-date documents.
Notably, Bangladesh became a member of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1973, both specialized agencies working in the field of digital technologies. World Telecommunication Day has been observed annually since May 17, 1969, in commemoration of the first International Telegraph Convention and the establishment of the ITU. From 2006 onwards, the day has been celebrated globally as World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, reflecting the evolution of information and communication technologies.
