‘Kobji Kata’ Gang Made TikTok Reels of Severed Wrists!
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested Mohammad Anwar, also known as "Shooter Anwar" or "Kobji Kata Anwar," the leader of the infamous "Kobji Kata" gang in Dhaka. The 36-year-old criminal was apprehended along with two of his associates, Md. Imon (20) and Md. Farid (27), from Adabor.
Anwar gained notoriety in 2024 by recording and sharing videos of individuals having their wrists severed, using social media platforms like TikTok to spread his group's influence. His actions triggered widespread alarm, and his gang soon became involved in a series of violent crimes, including murder, extortion, drug trafficking, and armed robbery across Mohammadpur, Dhaka Udyan, Chand Udyan, Nabibagar Housing, Chandrima Housing, Adabor, Shekhertek, and Nabodoy Housing areas.
At a press conference held at the RAB Media Center in Kawran Bazar on Tuesday (February 18), RAB-2 Commander, Additional DIG Khalidul Haque Howlader, provided details of the arrest. He stated, "During interrogation, Anwar admitted to severing the wrists of three individuals. However, our investigation revealed that he had actually committed this crime against seven people."
Anwar’s gang operated using a unique tactic—creating artificial traffic congestion near their target's location. Under the guise of assisting in easing the congestion, they would set up roadblocks, allowing Anwar to launch his attack while his associates positioned themselves in strategic locations before and after the incident.
The RAB-2 chief further stated, "Since August 5, we have arrested over 500 muggers during joint operations. Our objective is to bring the crime rate in Mohammadpur down to zero."
During the operation, law enforcement recovered a samurai sword, two knives, eight kilograms of cannabis, a private car, and a wristwatch from the arrested individuals.
