Sonos Slashes 200 Jobs Amid Controversial App Update Backlash

Premium audio hardware manufacturer Sonos announced in a letter on Wednesday that it has laid off 200 employees. This comes after the company had already cut 100 jobs last August. The latest round of layoffs follows widespread user dissatisfaction over a recent app update, TechCrunch reported.
Sonos’ interim CEO, Tom Conrad, who previously served as Pandora’s first CTO, stated in the letter that the company’s growing size has hindered internal communication. He wrote, “I’ve seen us get caught in additional layers of complexity that make collaboration and decision-making harder.”
Meanwhile, rumors have surfaced about the delayed launch of Sonos’ new set-top box or home hub. Codenamed “Pinewood,” the device is currently undergoing beta testing and could hit the market in 2025. Its expected price range is between $200 and $400.
