India's state-owned telecom company BSNL is having a bad time. Over the past decade, the operator has taken one step after another to regain its popularity in the market and to see the face of profitability. But that did not reduce their danger much. Because even in the age of 5G, BSNL is lagging far behind in the development of network technology. However, a recent news put the operator's customers at risk. According to a report in Economic Times, data of millions of BSNL internet and landline users are stolen by hackers and sold on the dark web. This hacker group is known as 'Perel'.

A hacker group named Perel has reportedly leaked a chunk of data stolen from the telecom company on the dark web, and the dataset includes email addresses, billing details, contact numbers and other personal sensitive data related to BSNL fiber and landline users. Presumably, all this important information includes customer data like mobile service outage records, network details.

A source related to the matter highlighted its importance and stressed that the scam has created a major problem for the privacy, security of BSNL customers. According to them, the data leaked by the hackers contained about 32,000 lines of data – but the hackers claimed that they had collected about 2.9 million (29 lakh) lines of data from all databases including district-wise information of BSNL customers.
