Minister Mahbub Anam Visits Agargaon Post Office, Emphasizes Modernization of Postal Services
For the first time since assuming office, Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Minister of Science and Technology, Fakir Mahbub Anam, visited the Dak Bhaban, the headquarters of postal department at Agargaon in the capital. During the visit, he briefly stood before postage stamps featuring the country’s distinguished figures to pay respect. On Monday, 2 March, following the tour, the minister met with officials of the Bangladesh Post Office in the building’s conference room for introductions and discussions.
Addressing the staff and officers, Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam stated that the successes and capabilities of the postal department must be presented to the public. He emphasized that the post office will play a key role in delivering citizen-centric government services directly to doorsteps, and activities will be prioritized to achieve this objective.
The minister further noted that the postal department is no longer confined to traditional mail exchanges; it has evolved into a modern and multifaceted service network. By successfully delivering postal ballots, the department has demonstrated its efficiency, accountability, and operational competence.
Fakir Mahbub Anam added that the nationwide network of post offices and the department’s large workforce can be leveraged more effectively to provide modern and reliable services even to the most remote areas. He highlighted the need for timely reforms, modernization, and technology-driven initiatives to achieve this.
In his remarks as a special guest, Secretary of the Posts and Telecommunications Division, Abdun Naser Khan, praised the Bangladesh Post Office for delivering fast and reliable services to remote regions, noting the department’s commendable role in electoral ballot distribution and urgent operations. He also emphasized initiatives in modern technology, address management, officer training, and updating outdated laws and ordinances.
The meeting was chaired by Director General of the Bangladesh Post Office, Kazi Asadul Islam, and attended by officials and employees of the department.
