Following the United States–Israel attack on Iran, airspace across parts of the Middle East has been closed, leading to significant disruptions in air travel. Due to security risks, a total of 54 flights bound for Middle Eastern destinations were cancelled from Dhaka between Saturday afternoon (28 February) and Sunday morning.

This information was conveyed to journalists on Sunday morning, 1 March, by Group Captain SM Ragib Samad of the Bangladesh Air Force, Executive Director of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. However, he did not specify when flight operations are expected to return to normal.

Sources at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport said that after the closure of Middle Eastern airspace yesterday, the travel plans of nearly 10,000 passengers on 27 flights were cancelled. Many of the affected passengers have been provided accommodation arrangements by the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare. Others have returned to their villages or homes.

The respective airlines will inform passengers via mobile phone once the flight schedule resumes normal operations.
