Quick Share to Bridge Android and AirDrop Ecosystems
Google’s file-sharing feature Quick Share will soon be able to work seamlessly with Apple’s AirDrop across all Android phones, making direct file transfers between Android devices and iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks significantly easier. Google’s Vice President of Engineering, Erik K, has confirmed the development. The update was reported by GSMArena.
Last year, Google had rolled out a version of Quick Share for Pixel users that was compatible with AirDrop. However, the feature was limited to the Pixel 10 series at the time. Google has now stated that following successful testing, the capability will be gradually expanded to other Android devices.
Analysts believe that Google’s decision to separate the Quick Share extension from the system app and release it as a standalone app on the Google Play Store was a clear indication of this broader rollout. At present, Google is working with various partners to ensure that the feature can be smoothly enabled across all supported handsets.
It is worth noting that Oppo and Xiaomi have already introduced AirDrop-like cross-platform sharing features in their respective operating systems, ColorOS and HyperOS.
