Technology Media Guild Bangladesh (TMGB), an organization of technology journalists, has distributed educational scholarships and study materials among 42 children of its members this year. The scholarship recipients include students from pre-primary, primary, secondary, and higher secondary levels.
The scholarships were awarded for the fourth consecutive year through a simple ceremony held on Saturday, January 24, at the Bijoy Auditorium of Daffodil International Academy in Panthapath, Dhaka.
The event was presided over by TMGB President Mohammad Kawsar Uddin. Distinguished guests included Vice-Chancellor of University of Frontier Technology Bangladesh Dr Mohammad Abu Yusuf; Director of the Professional Studies Department at Washington University of Science and Technology Mohammad Mahdi Uz Zaman; President of the Bangladesh Computer Samity (BCS) and Managing Director of Smart Technologies (BD) Limited Mohammad Zahidul Islam; General Secretary of Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN) Munir Hasan; and Finance Secretary of the Bangladesh Association of Contact Center and Outsourcing (BACCO) Mohammad Aminul Haque, among others. The program was moderated by TMGB General Secretary Mursalin Haque Junayed.
Also present at the event were TMGB Vice President (International Relations) Moidul Islam, Treasurer Mahadi Hasan Shimul, Organizing Secretary Golam Dastagir Touhid, Publicity and Publications Secretary Naznin Akter Lucky, and Executive Member Nazmul Hossain, among others.
Speaking at the event, Dr Mohammad Abu Yusuf, Vice-Chancellor of University of Frontier Technology Bangladesh, said that in today’s technology-driven era, talent must be harnessed with up-to-date technological knowledge. “It is not enough to merely use ready-made technology; the new generation must also understand the technology behind it,” he noted.
Mohammad Mahdi Uz Zaman, Director of the Professional Studies Department at Washington University of Science and Technology, said Bangladeshi students have recently performed very well in various international ICT-related competitions, including those organized by NASA. He emphasized the need for collective efforts to keep pace with future technologies and to showcase Bangladesh on global platforms through such competitions.
BCS President and Smart Technologies Managing Director Mohammad Zahidul Islam stressed the importance of ensuring equal educational rights for all children in the country. “We must not discriminate by labeling children as poor or from remote areas. TMGB’s continued initiative to motivate the new generation toward future-ready education is truly commendable,” he said.
BdOSN General Secretary Munir Hasan said that the new generation is not lagging behind in talent. He emphasized that children should not be confined only to books at home and school, but should also be encouraged to participate in competitions and extracurricular activities, as well as maintain regular interaction with family and relatives, to ensure proper intellectual development. He also urged TMGB members to involve their children in modern science and technology competitions such as the Math Olympiad, Robot Olympiad, Children’s Science Congress, and Junior Science Olympiad in the future.
