Tarique And Zaima Meets Winners of BNP’s ‘Amar Bhabanay Bangladesh’ National Reel-Making Contest
BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman met and exchanged greetings with the 10 winners of the party-organised national reel-making competition titled ‘Amar Bhabanay Bangladesh’. In addition to the competition winners, around 250 to 300 guests were present at the event.
The programme, titled ‘Meet and Greet with Tarique Rahman’, was held on Saturday afternoon, January 24, at Justice Shahabuddin Park in Gulshan. Tarique Rahman was seated on a raised platform, with his daughter Zaima Rahman sitting to his right. The winners were seated around him in a roundtable-style arrangement. On the opposite side were senior BNP leaders, including the party chairperson’s adviser Mahdi Amin and Press Secretary AAM Saleh Shibli.
Rows of media cameras were positioned at the other end of the venue, from where the interaction with the winners was broadcast live online.
Addressing the winning reel makers, Tarique Rahman said that South Korea earned USD 12 billion from content creation last year. “If they can do it, so can we. But for that, we need to go through several layers—like water filtration. We cannot achieve this overnight. Even if we are behind, with proper planning and consistent effort, we can succeed,” he said.
Responding to a winner’s question about plans for free public Wi-Fi advertisements, Tarique Rahman said the party is placing emphasis on social values from the primary level of education. “We will raise awareness about negative issues such as cyberbullying. We will integrate sports with programmes like Notun Kuri and include five to six sports in the curriculum. When a child remains engaged in arts and culture, they are less likely to be drawn into gambling. If we form the government, the ministries of education, culture, science, and sports will work together as a team,” he added.
Expanding on her father’s remarks about online harassment, Zaima Rahman said that both girls and boys face harassment online. “If people are taught how to properly manage digital platforms, hacking and misuse will decrease. But everyone must also learn how to report harassment. Establishing a community desk and addressing problems collectively at the local level could significantly reduce such incidents. You will have to come up with these solutions yourselves,” she told the participants.
During the discussion, proposals were also raised on constructing satellite towns at the district level to reduce traffic congestion in Dhaka, introducing vocational training based on overseas job market demand, and forming a Youth Advisory Council. Emphasis was placed on ensuring that family cards reach single mothers and women in extreme need. Plans were also outlined to reorganise 138 projects under the social protection sector.
According to BNP sources, the reel-making competition was organised to incorporate public ideas and proposals about future Bangladesh into the state-building process. Participants were asked to create one-minute reels on 11 themes, including the family card and farmer card initiatives. Around 2,500 contestants from across the country took part in the competition. Based on public voting (30 percent) and jury board evaluation (70 percent), 10 winners were selected, who were given the opportunity to meet and interact with Tarique Rahman and Zaima Rahman.
