City Bank to Suspend Services for Data Center Shift

City Bank will temporarily suspend all banking operations, including transactions, for two days to facilitate the relocation of its data center.

The bank has received formal consent from the Department of Offsite Supervision of Bangladesh Bank, under the authority of Section 45 of the Bank Company Act, 1991. According to the central bank’s directive, “To complete the data center relocation smoothly, permission is granted to City Bank to temporarily suspend all forms of banking operations from 12:00 AM on May 9 until 8:00 PM on May 11.”

Founded in 1983, City Bank has grown substantially in recent years. By the end of last year, its customer base had reached 3.2 million, a sharp rise from 68,000 in 2007. The bank currently employs 5,321 personnel.

City Bank also boasts the highest number of credit card customers in the country, with over 700,000 users. The outstanding loans against credit cards stand at approximately BDT 1,600 crore.

As of the end of 2023, the bank’s total deposits reached BDT 51,420 crore, while its loan portfolio amounted to BDT 44,498 crore. Notably, the bank crossed the BDT 1,000 crore profit milestone last year, posting a consolidated net profit of BDT 1,014 crore—an increase of BDT 376 crore or 59 percent compared to BDT 638 crore in 2022.
