The University of Frontier Technology, Bangladesh (UFTB) paid tribute to the nation’s martyred intellectuals at the Shaheed Buddhijibi Memorial in Mirpur, Dhaka, with Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Abu Yusuf leading the homage.

On December 14, marking Shaheed Intellectuals Day, the Vice-Chancellor laid a floral wreath at the memorial at 7:45 am. Present at the ceremony were Treasurer Professor Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain, Registrar Muhammad Ataur Rahman Khan, departmental chairpersons, provosts, the proctor, the Director of Student Welfare, the Director of Research and Extension, along with faculty members, officers, and staff. All attendees observed a moment of silence in solemn remembrance.

Earlier in the morning, coinciding with sunrise, the national flag was flown at half-mast and a black flag was hoisted on the UFTB campus. Faculty members, officials, and staff wore black badges as a mark of mourning.

After placing the wreath, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Abu Yusuf said that December 14 is one of the most painful days in Bengali history. He noted that, at the final hours before victory in 1971, renowned teachers, journalists, writers, philosophers, scientists, lawyers, physicians, engineers, architects and cultural activists—who were actively contributing to Bangladesh’s emergence—were systematically targeted and killed with the malicious intent of crippling the nation intellectually.

He added that the intellectuals had played a crucial role in shaping public opinion in favor of an independent and sovereign Bangladesh and had consistently raised their voices against injustice, oppression, and social inequality. Concluding his remarks, he prayed for the eternal peace and forgiveness of the souls of the intellectuals who embraced martyrdom at the final moment of victory on this day in 1971.
