JUST’s Journey to Jumpstart IELTS Preparation
To assist students in preparing for higher education abroad, Jessore University of Science and Technology (OTP) has launched a free IELTS preparation training program. This initiative by the university has gone viral on social media, drawing praise from teachers, students, and netizens from OTP as well as various other universities across the country.
The training program, announced on August 6 under the university’s Student Counselling and Guidance Office’s ‘Tumii Parbe’ (You Can Do It) initiative, is being organized in collaboration with the research-oriented organization ‘JUST Research Society.’
According to a notice signed by Dr. Md. Rafiul Hasan, Director of the Student Counselling and Guidance Office, the three-day training will be held from August 17 to 19, with August 10 set as the application deadline.
Dr. Md. Aminul Islam, Lecturer at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology, shared the announcement on his social media handle, commenting, “Highly appreciated! Possibly the first in the history of the country. If other universities organize such programs, students will warmly welcome them.”
Md. Zahid Hasan, General Secretary of the JUST Research Society, remarked, “JUST is a research-oriented university, and every year, a significant number of our students get the opportunity for higher education abroad. In most cases, they need to take the IELTS exam. Therefore, such an initiative by the university will undoubtedly be very effective. Additionally, if the university undertakes a broader program to teach English to all, it will be even more beneficial for students.”
The Facebook page of Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU) wrote, “Special training on IELTS preparation for JUST students. Not lobbying for another university, but this post comes from frustration. A university can be so student-friendly—JUST is a prime example. Although they started later than us, they have advanced significantly in research, environment, quality of education, and all other aspects.”
JUST authorities hope that such initiatives will create new opportunities for students on their path to higher education and help them gain a competitive edge in the international arena.
