A range of new multi-feature cards equipped with contactless technology, dual currency functionality, and two-factor authentication security has been launched in Bangladesh through a partnership between Mastercard and Mercantile Bank Limited (MBL).

The newly introduced products include the Mastercard Titanium Credit Card, World Mastercard Credit Card, Mastercard Debit Card, Mastercard Platinum Global Debit Card, and the Mastercard Prepaid Card.

The service was formally inaugurated on Saturday by Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, Economic Adviser and former Governor of Bangladesh Bank.

Also present at the event were Md. Zakir Hossain Chowdhury, Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank; Anwarul Haque, Chairman of Mercantile Bank; Gautam Aggarwal, Division President for South Asia at Mastercard; Syed Mohammad Kamal, Country Manager of Mastercard Bangladesh; Zahid Hossain, Deputy Managing Director and CBO of Mercantile Bank; and Tapas Chandra Paul, CFO of Mercantile Bank.

During the event, it was shared that the new cards offer enhanced features such as contactless payment, dual currency usage, and two-factor authentication. Cardholders will enjoy exclusive privileges and discounts on travel, lifestyle, and dining expenses.

Additionally, the cards will be accepted at over 9,000 partner merchant outlets affiliated with Mastercard and Mercantile Bank, offering attractive deals and discounts. Users will also have the ability to withdraw cash anytime from both domestic and international ATMs.

Highlighting the importance of card-based transactions, Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed said, “In many countries, cash usage has significantly decreased. Cards have become the primary medium, which is also achievable in Bangladesh. Mastercard plays a vital role, particularly in facilitating remittance inflows.”

He further noted that discussions are underway with the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to provide policy support for advancing the cashless economy.

Deputy Governor Md. Zakir Hossain Chowdhury added, “Significant progress has been made in mobile banking, digital platforms, and cybersecurity. These initiatives must be further expanded in the future.”

Matiul Hasan, Managing Director and CEO of Mercantile Bank, stated, “We are proud to launch new credit, debit, and prepaid card products in partnership with Mastercard. These cards, launched under our newly acquired Principal Membership, are a testament to our commitment to providing modern and customer-centric banking services.”

He further said, “With superior features and wide acceptance, these cards will ensure maximum benefit, security, and value for our customers. This initiative is part of our continued effort toward building a cashless and digitally empowered society in Bangladesh.”

Syed Mohammad Kamal, Country Manager of Mastercard Bangladesh, commented, “These cards are designed to meet the evolving needs and expectations of our customers, offering a seamless and limitless transaction experience. Mastercard remains committed to promoting digital payments among both businesses and consumers in Bangladesh.”
