Drone Discovered in Dinajpur: Device with GPS Found Near Hili Border

Police have recovered a suspected Indian drone equipped with a camera from a paddy field near the Hili border in Dinajpur. The drone, marked with GPS tags, was found approximately 400 yards inside Bangladeshi territory in the Ghasuria Adivasi Para area around 9 PM on Wednesday, May 14.
According to Superintendent of Dinajpur District Police, Md. Marufat Hossain, the drone was first spotted by a local indigenous farmer named Prafulla Toppo while he was working in his rice field at dusk.
Police reported that several farmers were working in the field near the Ghasuria border when they noticed the drone camera. One of them, Prafulla Toppo, took the drone home. As the news spread through the local community, he informed the police. A police team then recovered the drone from his residence and took it to the local station.
Inspector Jahangir Alam of Hakimpur Police Station confirmed the incident, stating: “Prafulla Toppo, a farmer from Ghasuria village under Khottamadhabpara Union, found the drone while working in his paddy field located 400 yards inside the Bangladeshi side of the border. He brought the drone home and later informed the police. Around 9 PM, police and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel went to his house. Sub-Inspector Suja Mia recovered the drone and brought it to the police station. As the device was recovered near the border, the police have initiated an investigation.”
District Superintendent of Police Marufat Hossain added, “Initial assumptions suggest that the drone may have entered Bangladesh territory after being launched from across the border. It is believed to be an Indian drone camera.”
Further investigation is underway to determine the drone’s origin, purpose, and whether it had crossed into Bangladesh intentionally or accidentally.
