Sajeeb Wazed Joy, son of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her ICT advisor, shared a post on social media linking to an obscure website that alleged financial misconduct involving cryptocurrency exchange platform Binance accounts held by Interim Government’s Chief Advisor’s Press Secretary Shafikul Alam and several coordinators of the July Movement.

In response, Shafikul Alam, the Chief Advisor’s Press Secretary, called Joy the "father of misinformation" and a "digital loot master" in a counter-post. However, later on Wednesday night (February 26), Joy removed his original post.

Reacting to this, Shafikul Alam posted again, stating, “The father of misinformation woke up and shared a false report about me, Nahid Islam, and Asif Mahmud. A few hours later, he took it down.”

He further wrote, “This is the same father of misinformation, worshipped by supporters of the Bangladesh Awami League. This is the so-called Harvard-educated digital loot master at work. It is a genetic trait inherited from his mother, who is a pathological liar by birth.”

Continuing his remarks, Shafikul Alam claimed that Sheikh Hasina once made a truthful statement only when she proudly told a group of sycophantic journalists that her office peon had earned BDT 4 billion (approximately USD 32 million at the current exchange rate). When the illegal wealth of this ‘billionaire peon’ was investigated, it was revealed that his actual wealth exceeded BDT 6.3 billion.

Following Joy’s post, a Facebook user named Sumon Ali also weighed in, stating that he had come across a report accusing Press Secretary Shafikul Alam, former Information Advisor Nahid Islam, Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, and Sarjis Alam of corruption. Upon further investigation, he discovered that the website publishing the report was not a legitimate news outlet.

He wrote, “The site is a WordPress-based blog that anyone can operate. It was launched on November 20, 2024, and contains 23 posts, almost all targeting the current government. The article in question was published by an account under the name Aminul Haque Palash.”

He further noted that Palash was previously involved with the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) unit of the Bangladesh Chhatra League and later worked for an intelligence agency. Currently, he is residing in the United Kingdom under political asylum.

Sumon Ali added, “Awami League members have been sharing this report, and I even saw some senior journalists sharing it as well. However, the site that published this is not a credible news platform but rather a disinformation website.”
