The election for the Executive Committee of the E-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB) for the 2025-27 term is scheduled to be held on May 3. According to the election schedule, the final voter list will be published on March 13-14, while candidates can collect nomination forms from March 15. The list of valid candidates will be released on April 9, with the final candidate list to be announced on April 17.

However, members of the e-CAB Reform Platform have expressed concerns over the election timeline and potential irregularities. On Wednesday, they met with BNP Standing Committee member and former Commerce Minister Amir Khosru Chowdhury, urging a delay in the election date. During the meeting, the delegation alleged that following the appointment of an administrator to e-CAB, efforts were being made to quickly hold the election and reinstate the previous leadership. Some also raised concerns about the support provided to women entrepreneurs.

In response, Amir Khosru advised them to document any irregularities and submit a formal complaint to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The meeting, held at Hotel Sherina in the capital, was organized by the United ICT Forum.

The session was presided over by United ICT Forum Convener, BNP National Executive Committee Member, and BACCO President Faisal Alim. The delegation included Chaldal.com Co-founder Zia Ashraf, restaurant owner and Foodpanda partner Shapla Khan, E-Commerce Sellers’ Association representative Ismail Hussain, Solution9 Managing Director Shahibur Rahman Khan Rana, Ribana CEO Md. Wahiduzzaman, furniture manufacturer Mohib Hossain, jute sector entrepreneur Md. Faruq Alam, and E-Paikar.com Founder Sheikh Safayat Hossain, among others.

Addressing the concerns, former Commerce Minister Amir Khosru Chowdhury stated, “Bangladesh’s IT-based businesses are our future. Through IT enterprises and activities, we can rapidly recover and strengthen our economy. This sector will create massive employment opportunities for young people. Therefore, we need to implement deregulation to reduce excessive control in this field.”
