The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has instructed that all unsold mobile handsets currently available in the market must be regularised (listed) by 15 December. To facilitate the registration of new mobile phones brought into the country personally or commercially, BTRC provided an Excel sheet to relevant stakeholders on Wednesday, 10 December. A sample file for uploading phone information has also been made available on the BTRC website.

The Excel form seeks detailed information including phone brand, model, price, place of purchase, and IMEI. Although 35 data fields are included, mobile traders are permitted to write “Not Applicable” in 16 of them. In column 7, BTRC has instructed traders to enter the address of their business establishment under the “App Reference” section.

According to sources, unused and imported unregistered phones listed in this form will continue to function as registered devices even after the NEIR service is launched on 16 December. To ensure this, traders must complete the Excel form and send it to the specified email address by 15 December.

BTRC shared the spreadsheet with mobile traders following a meeting with representatives of the Mobile Business Community Bangladesh (MBCB) on Tuesday, 9 December, at the Commission’s office in Agargaon. The discussion focused on simplifying the process of mobile phone importation and vendor licence enlistment.

BTRC’s relevant division says the initiative is part of an effort to streamline mobile import procedures and bring all stakeholders under a unified process.
