Tech and Trade Ties: Yunus Urges Chinese Investors to Make Bangladesh a Manufacturing Hub

Interim government’s Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has called upon Chinese investors to help transform Bangladesh into a manufacturing hub, citing information technology as one of the country's most promising sectors.
He made the call while inaugurating the daylong China-Bangladesh Business and Investment Conference held at the capital's Multi-Purpose Hall on Sunday, June 1.
Addressing the Chinese business delegates, Professor Yunus said, “Invest in Bangladesh to turn it into a manufacturing hub. The country has promising industries including ready-made garments, energy, agriculture, jute, and information technology.”
Highlighting the nation's demographic advantage, he added, “Half of Bangladesh’s total workforce is under the age of 30. These young people are ready to join the workforce.” He urged Chinese entrepreneurs to leverage this youthful population for mutual growth.
The conference was jointly organized by the governments of Bangladesh and China to provide Chinese investors with a comprehensive understanding of Bangladesh's investment potential and market landscape.
Around 250 investors and business leaders from 100 Chinese companies participated in the event.
Among others, Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Ashiq Chowdhury, Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao, and Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen also addressed the conference.
