Telecom and ICT Under Chief Advisor, Mahfuz Takes Over Information and Broadcasting

Following the resignation of Nahid Islam, the responsibilities of one of the ministries under his purview have been reassigned. However, the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology remains without a new advisor. Until an appointment is made, the Chief Advisor, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, will assume interim responsibility for the ministry.
This information was revealed in a gazette notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Wednesday, which confirmed that interim government advisor Mahfuz Alam has been assigned to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
Although the Chief Advisor is overseeing the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb has been designated as its policy advisor. As a result, he will continue managing the ministry’s affairs under the Chief Advisor’s guidance until a new appointment is made.
The possibility of such an arrangement was already hinted at in a report by DigiBangla on Tuesday, following Nahid Islam’s resignation.
According to the notification, signed by Zaheda Parveen, the acting Cabinet Secretary (Coordination and Reform) by order of the President, the Chief Advisor currently oversees six ministries.
The same notification also confirmed the appointment of Mahfuz Alam as the advisor to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
On Tuesday, February 25, Nahid Islam submitted his resignation to the Chief Advisor, stepping down from his role as advisor to both the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology. His resignation was accepted today, and Mahfuz Alam was appointed as his successor for the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. However, the ICT Ministry remains without a new appointee.
