Midrange Mastery: Nothing Phone (4a) Pro Blends AI, Design and Power
Known for its distinctive design philosophy and budget-conscious innovation, Nothing has introduced Phone (4a) and (4a) Pro this year. Skipping the flagship Phone 4, the company directly launched these two ‘A series’ models. Unveiled last month, the devices have already gained attention as some of the “best midrange phones.”
On paper, the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro appears to exceed typical midrange expectations. According to a review by Engadget, the $499 device could compete with devices like the Pixel 10a.
Design and Display: A ‘Pro’ Touch
The biggest highlight of the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro is its metal unibody design. For the first time in Nothing’s history, the device uses an aluminum frame instead of plastic, reducing its thickness to just 7.95 mm.
The display is another standout feature. The 6.83-inch flexible AMOLED screen offers a 1.5K resolution (2800×1260 pixels). With a 144Hz refresh rate and 5000 nits peak brightness, it ranks among the best midrange displays currently available.
Glyph Matrix: Master of Light
Nothing’s signature lighting system remains central to its identity. The (4a) Pro features the Glyph Matrix—a customizable array of LED lights that allows users to define notification patterns. It can also display charging status, timers, a digital clock, and even mini animations.
Camera: 140x Zoom!
In terms of camera capabilities, the Nothing (4a) Pro takes a step forward. It features a 50-megapixel triple camera setup, including a Sony LYT-700C main sensor and a 50-megapixel 3.5x periscope telephoto lens. With software processing, the digital zoom can reach up to 140x. While the 140x zoom is not particularly practical, the 3.5x optical zoom delivers excellent image quality in daylight. Low-light performance is also strong, although video recording remains somewhat underwhelming.
Performance and Battery
Powering the device is Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 processor. As a 2026 midrange chipset, it offers efficient performance for daily use while maintaining low battery consumption. Reviews indicate that the phone can deliver relatively stable performance at 60 FPS in heavy gaming titles such as Diablo Immortal and Red Dead Redemption.
Battery and Charging
The most notable “legendary” feature is its battery life. In battery rundown tests, the Nothing (4a) Pro lasted a full 24 hours—5 hours more than last year’s model. It supports 50W fast charging (approximately 50% in 22 minutes), but notably lacks wireless charging support.
Clean Software
Nothing OS 4.1 (based on Android 16) maintains its signature clean, bloatware-free experience. Features like ‘Essential Space’ and the ‘AI Dashboard’ add a new dimension to the software experience.
