Apple has released the first public beta version of iOS 26.5. The version has been made available to general users just a few days after the developer beta was introduced.

The most significant change in the new version is the addition of the ‘Suggested Places’ feature in Apple Maps. Based on a user’s location or search history, it will recommend nearby popular restaurants and other places.

The iOS 26.5 beta also introduces advertisements in Apple Maps. Back in March, Apple had confirmed plans to expand advertising beyond the App Store and Apple News app. Ads will be displayed based on the user’s location, search terms, and map queries. These will appear above search results and within the ‘Suggested Places’ list.

Apple stated that advertisements will be clearly labeled and will not compromise user privacy. Current location data and ad interactions will not be linked to Apple accounts, and personal data will remain on the iPhone.

Additionally, Apple is again testing ‘end-to-end encryption’ for RCS messages in the iOS 26.5 beta. However, the company has not confirmed whether this feature will be included in the stable release.

To access Apple’s public beta, users need to sign up on the Apple Beta Software Program website using their Apple account.

It is worth noting that the stable version of iOS 26.5 is expected to be released by the end of next month or early June.
