Video-sharing platform YouTube has returned to normal operations after a temporary disruption. According to outage-tracking website Downdetector, millions of users worldwide experienced difficulties accessing YouTube on Tuesday (February 17), reports Reuters.

YouTube authorities stated that the issue stemmed from a fault in their recommendation system, which caused problems in displaying videos across various YouTube services.

In a subsequent statement, the company confirmed that the issue with the recommendation system had been resolved and that all YouTube platforms—YouTube.com, the YouTube app, YouTube Music, Kids, and TV—were functioning normally again.

According to Downdetector data, at the peak of the disruption more than 320,000 users in the United States reported problems. Similar disruptions were also reported in India, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Mexico.

However, Downdetector’s data is based on user-submitted reports. Therefore, the actual number of affected users may differ from the reported figures, authorities noted.
