No Live, No Interviews Inside Polling Stations: EC Clarifies Rules
Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd.) Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah has stated that although cameras and mobile phones may be carried into polling centers, live broadcasts or interviews will not be allowed inside the voting stations.
He clarified the issue of mobile phone usage on Wednesday, February 11, during a briefing held at Hotel InterContinental in the capital for local and international journalists and observers ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election and referendum.
Responding to a question regarding the use of mobile phones at polling stations, he said that voters will not be allowed to use mobile phones while casting their votes. Live streaming or conducting interviews inside polling stations will be prohibited. However, cameras and mobile phones may be brought inside the polling centers.
He further informed that, for the first time in the country, UAVs (drones), body-worn cameras, and CCTV coverage are being deployed during the election. Anyone attempting to disrupt the process will be identified, even after the election if necessary, he added.
