Even when confined to a specific venue, national or local political gatherings no longer remain limited to a physical boundary. Through social media, such events quickly spread far and wide, putting added pressure on bandwidth and mobile network towers.

Ahead of the reception marking the return of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman after one and a half decades, telecom operators in Bangladesh have taken special measures to ensure uninterrupted connectivity at the July 36 Expressway (the 300-foot Purbachal road) near Kuril Bishwa Road. Discussions with the operators revealed that network towers have been deployed along the 300-foot road targeting connectivity for an estimated five million users.

All three private telecom operators are using artificial intelligence (AI)-based technologies to maintain network stability. AI is being applied to transmission systems to manage call traffic and bandwidth delivery. Operators have expanded antenna coverage, increased tower capacity, and enhanced radio frequency resources across the 300-foot corridor.

Robi Axiata’s Chief Corporate Officer Shahed Alam said the operator has installed five Cells on Wheels (CoWs) in the area to ensure uninterrupted service for customers. Temporary mobile towers have also been deployed, while network capacity has been strengthened by sharing loads with nearby sites. Regular speed tests are being conducted to monitor performance.

Banglalink’s Chief Corporate Affairs Officer Taimur Rahman said the operator has installed three CoWs. He added that technical preparations to handle additional traffic—from the airport to the 300-foot road, as well as Banani, Gulshan and Pragati Sarani—were completed early in the morning.

Grameenphone did not specify how many CoWs were deployed or the exact technical measures taken. However, the operator’s public relations department stated: “Considering the potential large gathering, we have enhanced the capacity of our network towers in the relevant areas. In addition, alternative backup measures have been adopted as required so that customers can enjoy uninterrupted services.”

Information regarding preparations by the state-owned telecom operator Teletalk could not be obtained.

Due to overnight network upgrades and advance technical measures taken by the operators, no significant customer complaints related to voice calls or video streaming had been reported up to the time of filing this report.
